2024 MAPGA Women’s Championship

Paige Gross (Club at Creighton Farms) won the 2024 MAPGA Women’s Championship at Bethesda Country Club with a score of even-par 72.  Gross trailed Taylor Babcock (Belle Haven CC) for a majority of the round. Babcock led by two shots at the turn, but a birdie by Gross on the par-three 13th hole put her one shot off the lead, unbeknownst to her.

“I didn’t have any idea where I was in the field,” Gross said, “I didn’t look at the leaderboard at all today.” Gross made par on her final five holes, but things still went back and forth between the two after Babcock carded a double bogey on the par-four 15th hole. Gross took a one shot lead for one hole before Babcock birdied the par-five 16th hole. The two were shortly tied, but a bogey-bogey finish for Babcock left Gross alone at the top.

This week, Gross also competed in the National Car Rental MAPGA Assistant Championship at Columbia Country Club where she shot 75-67–142 to secure a spot at the national event which will take place in November.

Joy Bonhurst (Blue Mash GC) won the Senior Division of the event with a score of 79 (+7). She won by five shots in her division. Bonhurst also had a big week herself at the beginning of August where she competed in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open in Pittsburgh, PA.

This event was sponsored by ECCO and Bob Dolan Jr., PGA. Thank you to the team at Bethesda Country Club for not only donating the course, but for donating breakfast and lunch for the competitors as well!
