Williamsburg, VA – The River Course at Kingsmill Resort provides some of the best finishing holes in Virginia. Just two weeks removed from an LPGA Tour event, the course was in great shape and provided a thrilling finish for the MAPGA Senior-Junior. This event pairs an MAPGA professional over the age of 50 with an MAPGA professional under 50. The par-71 layout was a good test of golf for the four-ball event.

Brendan McGrath (Hidden Creek Country Club) and Andy Bonn (Trump National Golf Club) were one of the first groups to tee off in the one-day event. They got off to a hot start, with birdies on two of their first three holes. They never looked back from there, making three more birdies on the front to go out in 5-under par. McGrath and Bonn continued their clean round on the back nine with three more birdies on holes 11, 12, and 16. However, they made a bogey on the 18th, finishing with a 7-under-par round of 64. With so many teams still to finish, it looked like several teams would have a chance to tie or take over the lead. McGrath’s immediate reaction was that the bogey would doom their chances.

With Bonn and McGrath posting an early number, the remaining teams knew what it would take to win. Four teams came to the 18th tee needing a birdie to tie for the lead and force a playoff, with McGrath and Bonn watching. No team could make it happen as several birdie putts came agonizingly close for the tie. McGrath/Bonn ended up holding on to win by one shot over two other teams.

We would also like to recognize Megan Leineweber (TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm) for making her first hole-in-one! She used a 7-iron on the 166-yard 2nd hole for her first ace.

Thank you to our sponsors Kirk & Matz and the PGA Tour for sponsoring the event as well as Loren White and his staff at Kingsmill Resort for hosting!
