Petersburg, VA – Tim Lewis, PGA of Eaglewood Golf Course knew what it would take to win the MAPGA Senior Championship this year after being in contention in 2020. He was tied for the lead going into last year’s final round but was unable to keep pace with David Hutsell and eventual champion Dick Mast. But he watched and learned.

Lewis put himself in the same position this year at Country Club of Petersburg by shooting a first round 2-under par 70, tied for 4th and only one shot back of the leaders after 18 holes.

He didn’t get off to the fast start he wanted to in round two, parring the first seven holes. However, he made his move by making birdie on 4 of the next five and saw himself with the lead after his two on the par-3 12th. A bogey on 14 put him back into a tie for the lead with Brendan McGrath (Hidden Creek CC). But Lewis wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip this time. He birdied the tough par-3 16th and the par-4 17th to go up by two shots. An easy par on 18 gave Tim Lewis his first MAPGA Senior Championship.

Six MAPGA Seniors ultimately qualified for the Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 21-24 at PGA Golf Club: Tim Lewis, Brendan McGrath, Kenny Clark, David Hutsell, Jim Estes, and Jeff Combe.
