Three Section Alumni Claimed Titles this Summer at Three Different Levels of Competitive Golf.

This summer has been a strong one for MAPGA Junior Golf Tour alumni. In the span of a few weeks, three Section grads won titles at three different stages of the game, from the junior amateur ranks all the way to the PGA Tour.

 

Michael Brennan Wins the Wyndham Championship

Michael Brennan, who grew up playing at River Creek Club in Leesburg, Virginia, won the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, on August 9. He birdied five consecutive holes late in the final round to close with a 6-under 64, finishing 22-under for the week and winning by three shots over Beau Hossler. It was his second PGA Tour title and his second in a calendar year. The win also locked up his spot in the FedExCup Playoffs.

Brennan was one of the most decorated junior and amateur players in the region before turning professional. He won the Middle Atlantic Amateur three years in a row from 2017 to 2019 and took the VSGA Amateur title in 2019. He went on to play at Wake Forest University, where he won eight individual titles over four seasons, including back-to-back ACC Championships in 2023 and 2024.

Tommy Morrison Claims First Professional Win

Tommy Morrison, who grew up in Potomac, Maryland before his family relocated to Texas in 2019, won the Evans Scholars Invitational on the Korn Ferry Tour at The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois, in just his fourth start as a professional. He finished 29-under 255, three shots clear of Dylan Menante, for his first Korn Ferry Tour title. Morrison turned professional in June 2026.

Morrison was the top-ranked junior golfer in Maryland for the Class of 2023. He originally committed to Duke University before decommitting following his family’s move to Texas and enrolling at the University of Texas, where he put together one of the stronger amateur resumes in the country.

In 2024, Morrison won the European Amateur, becoming the first American to claim that title. The following year he was selected to the USA Walker Cup Team, going 2-1 in the match as the Americans beat Great Britain and Ireland 17-9. At Texas, he won the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational with a 21-under 195 total, a new program record for low 54-hole score, and posted a 70.15 scoring average in his junior season.

Noah Maclauchlan Wins the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur

Noah Maclauchlan, 18, of Moseley, Virginia, got into the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur at Saucon Valley as an alternate and left as champion. Ranked 2,047th in the world amateur rankings at the start of the week, Maclauchlan worked his way through the match play bracket to the 36-hole final, where he beat Miles Russell, the top-ranked junior golfer in the world, 6 and 5. The all-left-handed final was the first of its kind in USGA individual championship history. Maclauchlan will play college golf at Liberty University this fall.

He and his brother Liam won back-to-back MAPGA/VSGA Junior Four-Ball titles in 2025 and 2026.
