Five of Seven MAPGA Representatives Finished in the Top 25
STAFFORD, Va. – Several Middle Atlantic PGA junior golfers showcased their talents on a national level at this week’s 45th Boys Junior PGA Championship, finishing near the top of a leaderboard featuring some of the best junior golfers in the country.
Bryan Lee (-13, T2nd finish), Mehrbaan Singh (-7, T10), Rylan Shim (-6, T14), Bennett Espenshade (-5, T18), and Chase Nevins (-4, T22) combined to finish 35-under par across four rounds at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky. Lee’s effort was just three strokes behind tournament winner Caleb Surratt and qualified him for the Junior Ryder Cup Team. Singh and Lee earned exemptions for the 2022 Boys Junior PGA Championship. Benjamin Newfield and Jake Roth rounded out the field among MAPGA junior golfers. Both missed the cut.
Impressive scores were posted by the MAPGA golfers all week. Five of seven that competed made the cut and the aforementioned golfers combined for 14 rounds under par for the championship. Lee and Singh each shot a -6 (65) in the third round, the lowest score in a round among the MAPGA juniors who competed this week. All five players who made the cut shot under par in both rounds three and four.
Shim, Espenshade, and Roth qualified for the national championship through the Section Junior PGA Championship in June. The others qualified through exemptions.
The Boys Junior PGA Championship was held July 12-15 at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky. The Girls Junior PGA Championship will take place July 27-30 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Sophie Simon and AnPhi Le qualified for the Girls championship at the MAPGA Junior PGA Championship in June.
