As part of our MAPGA Centennial Celebration, today we are honoring the esteemed Carl Maxwell "Max" Elbin (1920-2008), our 19th Section President. Serving from 1956 to 1958, Max Elbin provided crucial leadership within the Middle Atlantic PGA, a role that earned him induction into the ...MAPGA Hall of Fame in 1987. His journey started humbly, caddying at Cumberland CC, before turning professional and eventually becoming the long-serving Head PGA Professional at the Burning Tree Club, where he mentored dozens of assistants who became head professionals themselves.

Max Elbin's influence extended significantly beyond the MAPGA. He ascended through the national ranks, serving as National PGA Treasurer, Secretary, and ultimately President from 1966-1968. He skillfully guided the PGA through a transformative era, managing the split with touring professionals (leading to the PGA Tour) and negotiating professional golf's first major television contracts. Honored as MAPGA Professional of the Year in 1962 and recognized as a "Legend" by the PGA of America, Max Elbin's legacy of leadership and diplomacy profoundly shaped both our Section and the national organization. #mapga100

Today we are celebrating the incredible legacy of Carroll T. MacMaster, the MAPGA's 17th President! From 1947 to 1948, MacMaster led our section with unwavering dedication. His journey began as a caddie in 1909, and he rose through the ranks, becoming a prominent figure in both the MAPGA and ...the PGA of America Seniors' Association. Remembered for reviving the Seniors’ Association in the early 1950s and receiving the MAPGA's "Professional of the Year" in 1958, MacMaster's contributions to golf are truly remarkable. His leadership after World War II was pivotal, uniting the Baltimore, Washington DC area, and Virginia into a stronger section.

Beyond his presidential roles, Carroll MacMaster was a skilled player and mentor. Starting his professional career under Dan Mackie, a PGA pioneer, MacMaster's talent shone brightly. He competed in numerous events, including the US Open and PGA Championship, and even shot a 62 at Rolling Road! His impact on the sport extended to teaching and guiding the next generation of golfers. Today, we honor Carroll T.
