Stafford, Va. … (October 29, 2025) – The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) has announced their 2025 Players of the Year (POY) Award Winners, including PGA of America Golf Professionals’ Josh Speight (Locust Hill, Va.) OPEN Division; Paige Gross (Fairfax, Va.) WOMEN’S Division; Brendan McGrath (Centreville, Va.) SENIOR Division and Jon Moles (Urbana, Md.) ASSISTANT PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION (APA) Division.
“Each year, our Players of the Year set the standard for excellence across the Middle Atlantic Section,” said Jon Guhl, Executive Director, MAPGA. “Their commitment to the game, sportsmanship and competitive spirit embody everything the MAPGA represents. We’re proud to recognize these outstanding professionals whose achievements continue to elevate the reputation of PGA Professionals in our region.”
OPEN DIVISION
Josh Speight, a resident of Locust Hill, Va., and the PGA Director of Instruction at the Club at Viniterra, in New Kent, Va., is the 2025 MAPGA Open Division Player of the Year. Speight sustained a phenomenal level of play throughout the year, highlighted by three victories including the MAPGA Match Play Championship, the MAPGA Stroke Play Championship #1 and sealing his Player of the Year Honors with a win at the Rolex MAPGA Players Cup. Speight also earned T-3 or better finishes in four premier events, including a second place finish at the State Open of Virginia and a third place finish at the MAPGA Section Professional Championship. This is Speight’s second section player of the year award, as he previously earned the honor in 2020. Another highlight of his professional career was winning the 2017 Middle Atlantic Section PGA Professional Championship. Speight competed collegiately at Methodist University, where he was a Second-Team All-American in 2010 and helped lead Methodist to a National Championship. He graduated from Methodist’s PGA Golf Management University Program in 2011.
WOMEN’S DIVISION
Paige Gross, a resident of Fairfax, Va., and the Assistant PGA Professional at The Club at Creighton Farms, in Aldie, Va., is the 2025 MAPGA Women’s Player of the Year. Gross had a strong season, finishing with a T-1 in the Women’s Maryland Open and earning T-2 or solo second place finishes in five events including the MAPGA Women’s Championship, MAPGA Section Professional Championship, Rolex MAPGA Players Cup, MAPGA Stroke Play Championship #1 and Central Chapter Championship. To complement her MAPGA section award recognition, Gross is also the current Assistant Professional of the Year for the Central Chapter of the MAPGA Section. Last year, Gross and her husband Larkin – also a PGA Professional, and the 2024 Open Division and APA Division Player of the Year – made history for the MAPGA Section and nationally for the PGA of America when they were the first married couple to earn spots and compete in the same National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Gross previously captured the 2024 Women’s Section Championship.
SENIOR DIVISION
Brendan McGrath, a resident of Centreville, Va., and the Assistant PGA Professional at Trump National Golf Club in DC, is the 2025 MAPGA Senior Division Player of the Year. McGrath’s play was consistent throughout the season where he compiled a runner-up finish at the Senior Match Play, a second place finish at the Senior Maryland State Open and four other T-10 or better finishes. The highlight of the year was his victory at the MAPGA Senior Championship, while playing at his home course – Trump National – where he was the only player to finish under par. McGrath is an accomplished player with several prominent championships to his credit, including the 2023 Maryland Senior Open and 2023 Senior Open of Virginia titles, as well as being named as the 2023 MAPGA Senior Player of the Year.
ASSISTANT PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION DIVISION
Jon Moles, a resident of Urbana, Md., and the Assistant PGA Professional at River Bend Club in Great Falls, Va., is the 2025 MAPGA Assistant Professional Association (APA) Division Player of the Year. Moles’ first MAPGA victory was the 2024 Middle Atlantic National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship.
In determining the POY division winners, the MAPGA tracks three Rolex POY races, and continually updates them throughout the season. Players may earn Rolex POY points by competing in specific tournaments that are considered Rolex POY events. These events include the Match Play Championship, Chapter Championships, Stroke Play Championship #1, Stroke Play Championship #2, Pro-Scratch, Section Championship, Silvercrest Cup, Players Cup, Senior Championship (Senior POY only), and Women’s Championship (Women’s POY only).
