Middle Atlantic PGA Honors Frederick, Maryland PGA Professional David Freiss with President’s Award

Stafford, Va. … (February 11, 2026) – The Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America (MAPGA) has honored PGA Professional David Freiss of Frederick, Maryland, Club Manager at Musket Ridge Golf Club, with the prestigious President’s Award. This award bestows special recognition on an individual whose tireless effort, unwavering dedication, and meaningful contributions to the game of golf result in significant benefit to the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, its members and associates, and the broader golf community.
“Each year, the MAPGA President selects the President’s Award winner to recognize an individual who has been working ‘under the radar,’ to improve our game, our industry, and our Association,” said Mark Russo, PGA, President, Middle Atlantic PGA. “David Freiss has demonstrated endless support of the Section, his fellow PGA Professionals, and the advancement of the game of golf. His leadership and willingness to serve others exemplify what this award represents.”
A PGA Member since 2005, Freiss has been a steady and dependable presence within the Middle Atlantic PGA Section throughout his career. Since joining Musket Ridge Golf Club in 2008, and serving as Club Manager since 2015 after previously holding the role of Head Golf Professional, he has consistently supported Section initiatives, hosted MAPGA events, and mentored fellow Professionals. His commitment to collaboration and the sharing of best practices has strengthened both his facility and the Association.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Freiss began playing golf at age 15 and turned professional in 2000. A graduate of Penn State University, he has built a career defined by operational excellence and service-driven leadership, with earlier experience at River Bend Golf & Country Club, The Country Club of St. Albans, and Whistling Straits.
Under his leadership, Musket Ridge has experienced sustained growth in membership, outings, and merchandising while undergoing significant property and facility improvements. He developed the club’s junior golf programming from its inception to more than 100 participants across leagues, camps, and academy programs, reflecting his commitment to youth development and the long-term growth of the game. During his tenure, Musket Ridge has been recognized by Golfweek as the No. 1 public golf course in Maryland.
Freiss’ professionalism, humility, and consistent dedication to serving others embody the true spirit of the President’s Award.
