Ryan Zylstra, 8-Under-Par, Wins 2018 E-Z-GO MAPGA Match Play Championship

Congrats to Ryan Zylstra for winning the E-Z-GO MAPGA Match Play Championship defeating John O’Leary in the finals. Zylstra was on fire, using only 13 putts thru 13 holes to go the match play equivalent of 8-under par thru 13.

The final day of the match play finals consisted of John O’Leary and Blake Brookman facing-off as well as Zysltra and Billy Hoffman.

In the first semi-final match play, O’Leary was 3-Up on Blake Brookman thru Hole No. 9. O’Leary made birdie on the Par 3, No. 5, as well as, Par 5, No. 9 to face either Zylstra or Hoffman in the finals.

Zylstra maintained a steady lead over Hoffman thru nine holes. He closed out the match by making birdies on Holes No. 13 and 14 to take a 4-Up lead winning the match 4-3.

During the final match-up between Zylstra and O’Leary, Zylstra hit his approach on Hole No. 1 to concede birdie and go 1-Up for the round. A few holes later both players flew their shots over the sixth green. Zylstra got up-and-down, whereas O’Leary did not. Zylstra was 3-Up through No. 6.

Both competitors proceeded to halve No. 10 with pars. The next hole O’Leary missed a short par putt on No. 11 resulting in Zylstra going 6-Up with a secure lead with seven holes left to play.

Two holes later O’Leary concedes a short eagle putt to Zylstra on the 13th Green after his eagle chip narrowly ran by the hole. Zylstra won the 2018 E-Z-GO MAPGA Match Play and was the equivalent of 8-under-par thru 13 holes. On top of finishing 8-under, he did so with 13 putts.
