Day 1 of the MAPGA Jr. PGA Championship finished with five tied for the lead in the Boys Overall and Caroline Curtis and Julia Calomiris tied atop the Overall Girls leaderboard.
The shotgun start at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club featured 96 of the Middle Atlantic’s top junior golfers competing for a chance to play in the national Junior PGA Championship at the Country Club of Albans in St. Albans, Mo.
Curtis and Calomiris finished the day with scores of 73, closely followed by Bailey Davis’ 74.
Calomiris led the Girls Division with five birdies including three-straight on the first-nine. Curtis also led the field with 16 pars or better.
In the Boys Division, a five-way tie will determine the two juniors headed to Missouri for the Junior PGA Championship.
Kurtis Grant, Max Edminster, Kelly Chin, Jaron Leasure and Marshall Meiser finished the first round with scores of 1-over-72.
Jaron Leasure, Marshall Meiser and Zach Maloy led the Boys Division with 15 pars or better.
Garrett Kuhla scratched a one into his scorecard after hitting a hole-in-one on the 140yd. 17th hole with an 8-iron. He finished with a 73, one-back from the leaders.
Tee times will start at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
